Compress PDF to 200 KB

A 200 KB limit is common for scanned documents in online applications. Pick your PDF; the compressor works towards 200 KB and tells you exactly where it landed.

How to approach a 200 KB limit

200 KB gives a single scanned page enough room to stay at print quality: in our tests a typical A4 scan kept 150 dpi, the same as the Recommended setting.

The extra room is what lets short multi-page scans through. Two pages kept around 100 dpi and three pages around 85 dpi, both comfortable to read on screen. By five pages the resolution drops towards 72 dpi, where small print starts to soften.

Steps for a 200 KB upload

  1. Count the pages

One to three scanned pages fit 200 KB comfortably. For more, consider whether every page is needed.

  2. Choose the PDF

The compressor opens with a 200 KB target. If your file is already smaller, it tells you.

  3. Compress

Images are reduced only as far as needed to fit, measured on the real output.

  4. Compare with the original

Look at the smallest text on each page. If it holds up, the file is ready to upload.

What usually fits in 200 KB

  • One scanned page at print quality.
  • Two or three scanned pages, such as a set of certificates or a short form, at a resolution that reads well on screen.
  • Most typed documents of moderate length, and slides or reports with a handful of photos once those photos are reduced to the size they appear on the page.

When 200 KB is hard to reach

  • Ten or more scanned pages, which only fit at a resolution where text becomes hard to read.
  • Photo-heavy documents such as portfolios or catalogues.
  • Files with large embedded fonts, where most of the size isn't images at all.

If your PDF won't go under 200 KB

  • Remove blank, duplicate or unnecessary pages before compressing.
  • Scan in grayscale at around 150 dpi rather than colour at 300 dpi.
  • If the form allows several files, upload a long document in parts.

Frequently asked questions

Will my PDF still look good at 200 KB?

For one to three scanned pages, usually yes. Images are reduced only as far as needed, and text that is real text stays untouched. Open the result to check before you upload it.

Is my file uploaded to reach 200 KB?

No. All processing happens in your browser. The file never leaves your device.

What if the result is already under 200 KB?

If your PDF is already within the limit, the tool tells you so and you can upload the original file unchanged.

Compress to a specific size

Pick the limit your upload form asks for. The compressor opens with that target already set.
