Compress PDF to 500 KB

500 KB leaves room for longer scans and documents with photos. The compressor reduces only what it needs to and reports the exact final size.

Processed on your device. Nothing is uploaded. How we know

How to approach a 500 KB limit

At 500 KB the question is less whether a document fits and more how much quality it keeps. In our tests one or two scanned A4 pages stayed at print quality (150 dpi), three pages kept around 120 dpi and five pages around 100 dpi.

Typed reports with charts and a few photos usually need only light compression, because their text and drawings are already compact. Long scans of ten pages or more still fit, but at screen-only resolution.

Steps for a 500 KB upload

  1. Choose the PDF

The compressor opens with a 500 KB target set.

  2. Compress

It keeps as much image quality as 500 KB allows; a short document may hardly change.

  3. Check the photos

Text and drawings are untouched, so look at photos and scanned pages to judge the result.

  4. Keep the original

The compressed copy is a new file. Your original PDF is not changed, so you can always try again.

What usually fits in 500 KB

  • Multi-page scanned documents (around five pages) at a resolution that still prints clearly.
  • Reports and presentations with photos and charts.
  • Long text documents, including ones with tables and diagrams.

When 500 KB is hard to reach

  • Large scanned bundles with dozens of colour pages.
  • Print-ready brochures and photo books.
  • Engineering drawings and maps with very detailed vector artwork, which image compression doesn't reduce.

If your PDF won't go under 500 KB

  • Split very long documents into parts if the recipient accepts several files.
  • For scans, choose grayscale unless colour matters.
  • Remove pages the recipient doesn't need, such as blank backs of single-sided originals.

Frequently asked questions

Does compressing to 500 KB change the text?

No. Text, fonts, links and form fields are copied unchanged. Only images that are larger than needed are reduced.

How long does it take?

Usually seconds. Large scans with many pages take longer, especially on phones, because all work happens on your device.

Can I choose a different size?

Yes. Select Target size and enter any limit, or pick one of the common sizes.

Compress to a specific size

Pick the limit your upload form asks for. The compressor opens with that target already set.
